Marble Provenance: Italy, 1-2 centuries A.C. (imperial period)
Hecate was originally goddess of Asia Minor (now Turkey). In the 5th century B.C., the Greek sculptor Alkamenes creates the famous triple statue. The statue in the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden dates back to Roman times. Earlier it was painted by the famous Antwerp artist Rubens.
