Keukenhof Oranje Nassau Pavilion in the magic world of the roses

On area of about 80 acres in Lisse, the Netherlands, Keukenhof is the inimitable beautiful flower garden of Europe! One of the largest gardens in the world with fresh flowers that each spring shows amazing celebration of Dutch tulips and spring flowers of visitors from around the world. More than 7 million of flower bulbs are planted each year, that with the arrival of springtime dapple in a variety of colors the extensive gardens and glades of Keukenhof.

Before more than 500 years and until the end of the 14th century, the land near today's Keukenhof was a territory of hunting grounds, lush forests and dunes. The history of the gardens of Keukenhof begins in the 15th century when about the Teylingen Castle (now known as Keukenhof Castle), which was home to the family of Countess Jacqueline of Bavaria, Jacoba van Beieren (1401-1436) began to grown fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices. Over time the mansion has grown to an area of over 200 hectares. The basis of landscape architecture of Keukenhof is the work of Jan David Zocher and his son Louis Paul Zocher, well known Dutch landscape architects who redesigned the castle's gardens in 1857. The idea to use the gardens of Keukenhof as a permanent exhibition of spring flowering bulbs originated in 1949 and quickly was organized the preparation for the first exhibition of live flowers in the natural environmental conditions. Initially, the idea is to present an exhibition of flowers and in this way the manufacturers across the Netherlands and Europe to demonstrate their selections and hybrids, and help industry to export flowers, as the Netherlands is the largest exporter of flowers in the world and this is very important for the economy of the country. In 1950, for the first time Keukenhof opens its doors to the public and has a phenomenal success, visited by 236,000 visitors in its first year. Today, 66 years since, Keukenhof is an annual world-renowned color attraction of live flowers.

Keukenhof is on the special attention of the Dutch royal family. The first patron of the Keukenhof was Queen Juliana. Beside the external open gardens, some remarkable covered pavilions are built at Keukenhof in which are arranged magnificently variety of fresh flowers. Among them is the Oranje Nassau Paviljoen where the main focus are the various types of roses. The magnificent flower exhibition presents some of the most beautiful varieties of roses as "Rosa grootbloemig Dance Valley", "Rosa Paradiso", "Rosa grootbloemig Piola". One really enchanting faery of roses in amazing colors!
